Response to two colleagues' posts.

In Jahai's post, she believed that, "In the story "A rose for Emily"  by William Faulkner, Miss Emily had a negro slave named Tobe. It may be possible that William Faulkner himself and his family owned slaves because William Faulkner grew up in the southern state of Mississippi", but I believe that there is something about the author more complex then that. I think Jahai should have done a bit more research of the author to really get into the root of why he wrote "A rose for Emily". It would be nice to know why, from his background, his own experience, or just anything that sparked in his mine to think of this story?
On the other hand, Monica actually did some research on her other but I really didn't see the actual connection linked to the story she choose, nor did she mention the story she choose, but she mentioned it in another blog. Monica said, "I understand now that she always wanted to be a writer and the story she wrote about has a lot to do with her life". I wonder what apart of her life had to deal with "A Sorrowful Women". Was it that she did all the actions that the main character did in the story, was it a friend that did it, or was it just something she thought about randomly? These are questions that could have been incorporated to merge both the author and the story together.

How the author's life of my Doc1 story/poem affects the story or poem

After researching Karen van der Zee's life, I noticed that she has always wanted to write, she said, "I was a dreamer, reading books and making up my own stories". To me she seems like a dreamer and a sap after reading "A Secret Sorrow".  She mentioned that she wanted to see the world and "wanted to write adventurous stories set in these exotic places". I confirmed that she was a sap because she said "I got lucky and fell in love with a globetrotting American. I met him in Amsterdam, he asked me to marry him in Rome, and we tied the knot in a ten-minute ceremony in Kenya, East Africa, where he was a Peace Corps Volunteer". I understand now, why she is so in love with writing romantic fiction stories. Her life, as far as her love life, itself is romantic. She c"ontinued writing romances and loved the creativity of it, although it was, and is, never easy". Her view point of love is that it conquers all and regardless of a struggle or a permanent damage, she is still able to see love as something beautiful. Van der Zee also motioned that she "loved the challenge of living in a foreign country where the food is different, the people interesting and life gives me endless inspiration for my writing ". A Secret Sorrow", as we all know is a romantic novel that demonstrates how love is stronger than anything, and now I know exactly why she wrote it.

Reflection of classmates post

After reading Jay's post, she learned, "“The Story of an Hour” is Kate Chopin’s short story about the thoughts of a woman after she is told that her husband has died in an accident. This story is creepy because of the role of Louise Mallard" I wanted to know what the creepy part about it was and why everyone decided to choose this story. My opinion of the story is similar because it is a story about a women who celebrates her husband’s death, so she can be free from him. Jay didn't write much about what she learned but I think her main point is that a women who celebrates her husband’s death is sort of psychotic. Also, I actually learned something from Keyshuna’s post, when she mentioned that she learned, how “a dynamic character is someone who changes a lot during a story” .To be honest I didn’t know what that meant, but after reading her response I understand that a dynamic character is a developing character, in “A Sorrowful Women”, the mother developed into a character who did not want to fulfill her role as a housewife

What I have learned about your story

When I first read "A Secret Sorrow", I wasn't looking for who was the protagonist or the antagonist, I was just simply reading. After I read it for the second time I began to read it for understanding, that's how I got the idea for my Doc 1 to ask who was the antagonist or protagonist. I learned that, in this story, it doesn't have to be read as if it is just from a women's point of view, but also from a man's. Most stories pretty much do one of the other, but since van der Zee did both it encouraged me to ask that question. I also learned that sometimes a character can be both the antagonist and protagonist, and that the main theme is finding true love and letting go of the past. I am glad I choose this story because for one it is more modern and it can be interpret and debating on.

My choice of story...A Secret Sorrow

I choose "A secret Sorrow", because it is a more modern story than the others. I like how the story proves that love conquers all, no matter what the circumstance may be. A women by the name of Faye, is unable to have children and her lover Kai is willing to give up not having children just so he can be with her. He tells her that they can adopt, and so they did. I like how the story was told because I was able to understand it better than the other stories, probably because it was more modern to me. The story did start off pretty slow, but as I kept reading I kept on going awe! I also choose this story because I know exactly what I can write about it in my doc 1.

Favorite Movie...The Losers

My favorite movie is The Losers. I like this movie because it is funny and has tons of action in it. My favorite genera is horror films but I have not taken on a favorite horror film yet. Action and comedy fall second on my genera list, which makes  The Losers my favorite movie. The movie consist of three actors such as, Zoë Saldana, Chris Evans, Idris Elba, and Columbus Short. There isn't any spectacular reason to why I love this movie, it just simply satisfies all the things that I would enjoy in a movie, especially in an action movie. The movie is about 5 members of an elite U.S. Special Forces unit sent into the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. The protagonist, Clay and his team, Jensen, Rogue, Pooch and Cougar, find themselves the target of a lethal betrayal instigated from inside by a powerful enemy known as antagonist, Max. Presumed dead, the group makes plans to even the score when they're joined by Aisha. Working together, they must remain deep undercover while tracking Max. The movie may sound a pit serious, but trust me it is super funny. Of course, in some senses, the cast is rather serious and there aren't any jokes being told, but the overall movie is funny. I rarely watch this movie because I don't want to play it out, therefore I only watch it every blue moon. Well since I am talking about it, I mine as well watch it after this class!

Introducing Me!!

Hello classmates! My name is Shawnise Addison, but my friends just call me Addison ( I guess its easier) I want to switch my major from nursing to communications, so hopefully I make straight A's. I'm a really cool person and I like pop music and dubstep, some might call me an "Oreo". I didn't want to live on the Cochran campus because of the gnats( I hate gnats), however, I did want to live on the Macon Campus. I am from the city, Atlanta, and I was born in Minnesota. I like to do research on pretty much everything, especially on things I have to purchase. I am not a loud person nor am I a person who likes to "turn up". Not to say that I am boring or "too safe", I just like to chill. I am a mellow person. It's okay with me to go out to parties, but not all the time. I like to put school first because that's the main reason that I am here. I am Christian, and  I do not judge people on their beliefs. I like to draw, but I can't draw. I know that sounds weird but I'm saying that I like the idea of drawing and I wish I could do it well or at all for that matter. I also like to watch cartoons, I don't care how old I am, by the way I am 18. I will not be aged! That does not mean I am immature, it means that I like cartoons, that's it. I do not have a temper nor am I rude. I talk a lot once you get to know me other than that I may be quiet. I am considered a nerd but that's okay because nerds always wins! Well that's all about me, I look forward to knowing about all of you.
