Metaphor in a song lyric

One of the songs that I like, that never gets old to me is "Little Talks" by Of Monsters an Men. I love this song because it tells a deep emotional story and for the sake of this post, it have plenty of metaphors within in it. My favorite line consist of a metaphor, which is:

"The stairs creak as I sleep,
it's keeping me awake
It's the house telling you to close your eyes

Some days I can't even dress myself.
It's killing me to see you this way.

'Cause though the truth may vary
this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore."

The metaphor in this song is comparing the house to her lover. She sometimes fear the house( her lover) and can' t seem to trust him in a way that gets so bad that she cannot trust herself. She blames the house for her and her lovers problems to the point where she is up all night thinking about it, but instead of actually blaming the lover she thus, blames the house, because the house is creaking (making noise at night as the lover does coming in late nights). She is unsure of her lover, so she then becomes crazy, where she cannot dress herself. She believes that the house and the lover are two of the same.

The images 2 colleagues' discussed in their posts and how you differ.

Jay said, "images can mean a plethora of things depending on the viewers understanding. Imagery appeals to the five senses". I 100% agree with this statement because different people experience things differently in a way that it applies to their senses. Jay also used the poem "Heat" and thought that the heat is a feeling of touch, both of us had different feelings  and outlook toward the poem.
Jahneha said, she "honestly cause I can look at something and take it one way then you can look at it in a totally different angle that how I see it", which is what Jay was saying, on how people look at things differently than others.  She choose the song lyric, "You know I got the sauce (sauce), you know I’m saucy And it’s always wet, a b**** never ever had to use lip gloss on it." I have no idea what that song is, but to her it could mean something very meaningful, but for me it means absolutely nothing, but everyone has their own opinion and feel for different things.

Why images can mean so many different things

Images can mean different things depending on a person and what a person thinks. There is a poem in our text called, "Heat", by H.D. The poem talks about hear, of course, but I see it as being smothered and how one cannot function properly,or do what they a meant, due to being smothered just like how, "fruit cannot drop through this thick air". When I hear the words "thick air" and "heat", I not only image a hot place, but  I also see a smothered person, someone who can't stand the heat, so they get out of the kitchen. Even though I see it that way, someone else can see that image differently.
One of my favorite song lyrics by Troye Sivan is, "I want you, I'll color me blue, anything to make you stay only seeing myself when I'm looking up at you". I love this lyric because I imagine a relationship, that went wrong due to color of their skins, so they decided to color each other blue so that skin tone won't matter. Someone else could see this lyric as something more than skin tone, maybe, they can see a longer image like trying to ignore skin color or perhaps it could mean to take the grey skies away, so they will color each other blue to brighten up their day or life.

Two colleagues' posts Mythological Elements

Adrian, wrote her post about "Hazel Tells Laverne" by Katharyn Howd Machan. She believes that Metamorphosis could be the mythological elements in this poem. She also gave an example of how this could be, "The frog tell her she have to kiss him and she would change into a princess." Everyone has heard or saw the princess and frog, and of course we all know that is a myth, it is just a story that people tell for entertainment, and a lesson learned.
Jahnesha, wrote her post from the poem, "How I Discovered Poetry" she mentioned that "it used one of mythological elements of using love in the first like by saying "It was like souls-kissing, the way word filled my mouth as Mrs. Purdy read from her mouth." This part of the poem uses imagery which is a form a mythological element and it provides the image of love and how love can feel, but some may say that love is a myth, and that it is an illusion in some cases. The way I feel about it is that it is like "souls-kissing",because it is a beautiful things, but I also feel as though it can be just an image or maybe an illusion.

Mythological Elements. "We Real Cool".

The mythological elements in Gwendolyn Brooks' "We Real Cool", seems like a myth of how people who are "cool" and play pool behave. The poem describes how those who play pool are the cool kids on the block. They are so cool that they are too cool for school, and there for the left school. It seems as though these people who are cool, stay out way to late playing pool, with potty mouths, "we sing sin" (Brooks 828). The cool kids on the block not only do all of those things but they also party often, jazzing to the beat in the summer of June. These cool kids know that this life style is fun and that everyone who is no one would love to be in their shoes, but they know that this life style comes with consequences. They know that with their life style that they choose, the will die soon.

2 of my colleagues' favorite poems or lyrics

Jahai's favorite lyric is by Tupac. The song was,"The Rose That Grew From Concrete", and that it "is about having ambitions goals and reaching them despite the circumstances and conflicts we are faced". I also have heard this song and I understand why she likes it. It demonstrates how words are very powerful and can encourage people to keep their heads up, even when times are tough. Songs like "The Rose That Grew From Concrete", gives people motivation, hope, and inspiration.
Monicia, wrote that her favorite poem is "A Phenomenal Woman", and that it "is how an average woman is still beautiful because of the way she carries herself. Its not because she looks like a model or walks like one". This poem is very beautiful and inspirational. It allows the women, to accept who she truly is and to love herself no matter what. This poem is very uplifting, and not only does it boost one's confidence but it also teaches women to respect themselves. I love this poem myself because it is very deep and gives out an important message to women, girls, and young ladies.

My favorite song lyric

My favorite song lyric is by Twenty-one Pilots. The song is called "Holding on to you". I love this lyric because it describes how people can change the way the feel about themselves. This particular lyric is very powerful to me because tons of people feel as though their mind "controls" them and that they have no power over what they can and cannot do. This lyric exemplifies how that is untrue. It gives an example on how to deal with those feelings and thoughts of suicide, by taking that noose and ting it across their mind and making the mind (brain), listen and obey the person, instead of the brain taking over.

"Fight it, take the pain, ignite it
Tie a noose around your mind
Loose enough to breath fine and tie it
To a tree tell it,
You belong to me, this ain't a noose
This is a leash and I have news for you
You must obey me"!
