How to use writing as a tool for learning

Using writing as a tool is a great essential to learning because it allows us as students to think critically. This helps us transform from passive to active learners. Most writing activities aim to promote the use of critical thinking strategies. With writing being a tool for learning, we are able to expand out thinking. We are able to use writing to explore. The main goals to exploratory writing are to clarify thinking, ask questions, reflect, and explore ideas.
Using this tool helps us developed how to explain, within our writing. We can write to explain ourselves, to understand concepts through review and analysis. These are all apart of using writing as a tool. This tool not only helps students learn how to write, but it teaches them how to write to learn.
