Response to two colleagues' posts about what they have learned.

After reading Jahai's post, the most important thing he has read was, "The literature we read from class I learned that William Faulkner, the author of the story "A rose for Emily" the way Faulkner describes certain things that make them an important element in the story." This is something that I also learned, well as far as the important elements in a story. At first when we read this story, everyone had a general explanation for it, which wasn't what was actually going on in the story. Most of us read it just because without any real information or any information that was very significant. I'm glad that afterwords, we were able to understand the story and its true elements.
Thomas and I both learned the same thing as far as readings goes. He mentioned in his post, "From this class I learned how to analyze and break down readings better". This was actually more important to me than the writing part because I believe that if I can understand a poem, story, or play better, then writing about it would be a piece of cake.

The most important thing I learned in this class from the literature we read

The most important thing I have learned was how to actually read literature, I haven't been actually looking at the big picture while reading literature and have been missing out on important information such as dates, setting, chanter's names, and the reason behind the story. While reading poems and plays, I would just read it as if it was just any old story, but I learned that it actually had meaning to it, and not just any old meaning, but a very significant one. I also learned how to write about literature. Instead of taking information from websites, I was able to take them from the book itself. I was also able to see the bigger picture within that and explain why I choose a certain agreement and giving sources from the book to back it up.

Comparing and contrasting your post to two colleagues' posts about women in modern family life.

In Akeryah's post, she said that "The role of women in modern family life is more on being independent". I completely agree with that statement because women today, do not depend on their boyfriends, let alone their husband's. Do not get me wrong some may, but even with that, they can be independent. It isn't as if they are trapped. Women can play any role they choose, which causes them to be inexpedient. Women are respected more now since their expectations have risen and they now feel superior and as equal to men.
After reading LoKnos's post, he said, " The average woman in this day in age have their own job, car and even most occasions their own house. It wasn't like this in the early 1900s, women barely had any rights & now that they do, they take advantage of them." Things have changed for the better and I believe that everyone knows that, and possibly may even like it that way. Most men of today love independent women, no one wants a needed dependent person any more. In this society, women have "back bones" and are not afraid to stand up for what is right, they can do pretty much anything a man can.

Role of women in modern family life

The role of a woman in a modern family is to get up, wake the children, fix breakfast, if not cereal, make sure the children get on the bus, and then go to work. It is different now, women no longer have to obey they old school norms of the past. Most women just work and its up to the children to get themselves up, depending on their age. Women cook still, but it is not their main job nor is cleaning. Women may do these things because they like to have to or because they are a mother and a wife and its just something you do, but they also go to work and they could make more than their husbands, they can also work more than their husbands. The world has changed and so have modern women.

Plot of my favorite movie

My favorite movie is The Losers. I like this movie because it is funny and has tons of action in it. My favorite genera is horror films but I have not taken on a favorite horror film yet. Action and comedy fall second on my genera list, which makes  The Losers my favorite movie. The movie consist of three actors such as, Zoë Saldana, Chris Evans, Idris Elba, and Columbus Short. There isn't any spectacular reason to why I love this movie, it just simply satisfies all the things that I would enjoy in a movie, especially in an action movie. The movie is about 5 members of an elite U.S. Special Forces unit sent into the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. The protagonist, Clay and his team, Jensen, Rogue, Pooch and Cougar, find themselves the target of a lethal betrayal instigated from inside by a powerful enemy known as antagonist, Max. Presumed dead, the group makes plans to even the score when they're joined by Aisha. Working together, they must remain deep undercover while tracking Max. The movie may sound a pit serious, but trust me it is super funny. Of course, in some senses, the cast is rather serious and there aren't any jokes being told, but the overall movie is funny. I rarely watch this movie because I don't want to play it out, therefore I only watch it every blue moon. Well since I am talking about it, I mine as well watch it after this class!

Setting of your favorite TV show and what the setting means for the show.

The setting of my favorite TV show takes place in New York. The setting, I believe, represents success and how people can come up in the world. when people look at New York they would think of fame, culture, and about its significance. Empire is a TV show that takes place in New York, and that setting fits the description of fame and success. So, all in all the New York setting means fame and success for the TV as well as coming up from a rural area, to the big apple!

What develops a metaphor about what you think about poetry

A metaphor about what I think about poetry would be in agreement with Ruth Forman, that poetry should be apart of a person's everyday life and that it comes natural. Poetry to me, is a girl watching the sunset and reflecting. Or perhaps a man getting a cup of coffee and all of a sudden bumps into a women, and love starts up. Property is the simple things in life that seem ordinary, but they have deeper meanings then what most people would think. Poetry can be plenty of things but for me, poetry is everywhere we go and it is in our everyday lives already.

Metaphor in a song lyric

One of the songs that I like, that never gets old to me is "Little Talks" by Of Monsters an Men. I love this song because it tells a deep emotional story and for the sake of this post, it have plenty of metaphors within in it. My favorite line consist of a metaphor, which is:

"The stairs creak as I sleep,
it's keeping me awake
It's the house telling you to close your eyes

Some days I can't even dress myself.
It's killing me to see you this way.

'Cause though the truth may vary
this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore."

The metaphor in this song is comparing the house to her lover. She sometimes fear the house( her lover) and can' t seem to trust him in a way that gets so bad that she cannot trust herself. She blames the house for her and her lovers problems to the point where she is up all night thinking about it, but instead of actually blaming the lover she thus, blames the house, because the house is creaking (making noise at night as the lover does coming in late nights). She is unsure of her lover, so she then becomes crazy, where she cannot dress herself. She believes that the house and the lover are two of the same.

The images 2 colleagues' discussed in their posts and how you differ.

Jay said, "images can mean a plethora of things depending on the viewers understanding. Imagery appeals to the five senses". I 100% agree with this statement because different people experience things differently in a way that it applies to their senses. Jay also used the poem "Heat" and thought that the heat is a feeling of touch, both of us had different feelings  and outlook toward the poem.
Jahneha said, she "honestly cause I can look at something and take it one way then you can look at it in a totally different angle that how I see it", which is what Jay was saying, on how people look at things differently than others.  She choose the song lyric, "You know I got the sauce (sauce), you know I’m saucy And it’s always wet, a b**** never ever had to use lip gloss on it." I have no idea what that song is, but to her it could mean something very meaningful, but for me it means absolutely nothing, but everyone has their own opinion and feel for different things.

Why images can mean so many different things

Images can mean different things depending on a person and what a person thinks. There is a poem in our text called, "Heat", by H.D. The poem talks about hear, of course, but I see it as being smothered and how one cannot function properly,or do what they a meant, due to being smothered just like how, "fruit cannot drop through this thick air". When I hear the words "thick air" and "heat", I not only image a hot place, but  I also see a smothered person, someone who can't stand the heat, so they get out of the kitchen. Even though I see it that way, someone else can see that image differently.
One of my favorite song lyrics by Troye Sivan is, "I want you, I'll color me blue, anything to make you stay only seeing myself when I'm looking up at you". I love this lyric because I imagine a relationship, that went wrong due to color of their skins, so they decided to color each other blue so that skin tone won't matter. Someone else could see this lyric as something more than skin tone, maybe, they can see a longer image like trying to ignore skin color or perhaps it could mean to take the grey skies away, so they will color each other blue to brighten up their day or life.

Two colleagues' posts Mythological Elements

Adrian, wrote her post about "Hazel Tells Laverne" by Katharyn Howd Machan. She believes that Metamorphosis could be the mythological elements in this poem. She also gave an example of how this could be, "The frog tell her she have to kiss him and she would change into a princess." Everyone has heard or saw the princess and frog, and of course we all know that is a myth, it is just a story that people tell for entertainment, and a lesson learned.
Jahnesha, wrote her post from the poem, "How I Discovered Poetry" she mentioned that "it used one of mythological elements of using love in the first like by saying "It was like souls-kissing, the way word filled my mouth as Mrs. Purdy read from her mouth." This part of the poem uses imagery which is a form a mythological element and it provides the image of love and how love can feel, but some may say that love is a myth, and that it is an illusion in some cases. The way I feel about it is that it is like "souls-kissing",because it is a beautiful things, but I also feel as though it can be just an image or maybe an illusion.

Mythological Elements. "We Real Cool".

The mythological elements in Gwendolyn Brooks' "We Real Cool", seems like a myth of how people who are "cool" and play pool behave. The poem describes how those who play pool are the cool kids on the block. They are so cool that they are too cool for school, and there for the left school. It seems as though these people who are cool, stay out way to late playing pool, with potty mouths, "we sing sin" (Brooks 828). The cool kids on the block not only do all of those things but they also party often, jazzing to the beat in the summer of June. These cool kids know that this life style is fun and that everyone who is no one would love to be in their shoes, but they know that this life style comes with consequences. They know that with their life style that they choose, the will die soon.

2 of my colleagues' favorite poems or lyrics

Jahai's favorite lyric is by Tupac. The song was,"The Rose That Grew From Concrete", and that it "is about having ambitions goals and reaching them despite the circumstances and conflicts we are faced". I also have heard this song and I understand why she likes it. It demonstrates how words are very powerful and can encourage people to keep their heads up, even when times are tough. Songs like "The Rose That Grew From Concrete", gives people motivation, hope, and inspiration.
Monicia, wrote that her favorite poem is "A Phenomenal Woman", and that it "is how an average woman is still beautiful because of the way she carries herself. Its not because she looks like a model or walks like one". This poem is very beautiful and inspirational. It allows the women, to accept who she truly is and to love herself no matter what. This poem is very uplifting, and not only does it boost one's confidence but it also teaches women to respect themselves. I love this poem myself because it is very deep and gives out an important message to women, girls, and young ladies.

My favorite song lyric

My favorite song lyric is by Twenty-one Pilots. The song is called "Holding on to you". I love this lyric because it describes how people can change the way the feel about themselves. This particular lyric is very powerful to me because tons of people feel as though their mind "controls" them and that they have no power over what they can and cannot do. This lyric exemplifies how that is untrue. It gives an example on how to deal with those feelings and thoughts of suicide, by taking that noose and ting it across their mind and making the mind (brain), listen and obey the person, instead of the brain taking over.

"Fight it, take the pain, ignite it
Tie a noose around your mind
Loose enough to breath fine and tie it
To a tree tell it,
You belong to me, this ain't a noose
This is a leash and I have news for you
You must obey me"!

Theme of my life so far...

The theme of my life so far would probably be to get to my goals as fat as I can. This goes for all of my goals not just my academic one. I try to escape my own reality by trying to crate my own. I do this by coming to college and do what I am supposed to, to make sure that I am good in the future. My theme really inspirational or something that is "outside the box", for some reason I feel as though it is a bit cliche, but at the same time it is my theme, and I wouldn't want to change it. I also believe that I have another theme in my life which is to, get married. So I make sure that my relationship is good at all times, and hope for the best for the our future. I also feel as if I am doing my best best to live right spiritually. I know that I am not perfect, but I am trying to live right, and even when that takes turns sometimes, I still keep going and try to do better each day, even when I do, I still try. So my themes would be goals, my relationship, and getting closer to God as close as I can each and every day.

the theme of my favorite movie

My favorite movie, The Losers has plenty of themes, but I'll talk about three of them. The first theme that I'd like to introduce is, courage. Clay's team, Aisha, Jensen, Pooch, Cougar, and Roque, had to go on a "suicide mission", in order to capture the protagonist, Max, from buying and using nuclear weapons. The entire movie is based off of courage that Clay's team had during their mission. Unity, is also a major them in The Losers. As you watch the movie you will begin to notice how, no matter what, the team always sticks together and that they live by a code, "if one of us fall, we all fall". Only one member of the group, Roque, died because he betrayed the group and was in it for money, however, that made the group stronger. At the end of the movie, you will see how they completed the mission and all together they go to the hospital to congratulate Pooch for his new born son and how they all go to Jensen's niece's soccer game, and those scenes represented togetherness. Last but not least, trust. Trust was on and off throughout the movie, because Clay was unable to determine if he can trust Aisha because her father was behind the massacre of the children who blew up in the helicopter, when her father's intensions, were blow up clays team. Towards the end Clay was able to trust her, since they got on the same side, which was trying to capture Max

Post about two colleagues' symbols

Marlon looks at his batman chain as a sign of hope and confidence, he said, "When I notice it on  my keys, I think to myself even someone average with the right skills can achieve remarkable things". I think that is very inspirational thing to say. I would have never guessed that someone would find a form of confidence from a chain. I believe that everyone should have something that they wear or carry, that will give them a form of confidence to get them by in life.
Monica's necklace is also very inspirational, she said, "the object I wear that symbolizes something for me is the necklace my husband got me on Christmas this year". That is another thing that gives people hope and joy and I am sure her symbol is very important for her especially coming from someone who she loves.

Something that I often wear and what it symbolizes

Some of my friends call me Tokyo because I always wear this purple Tokyo hoodie, almost everywhere I go. I only wear it often because its my only hoodie that I have with pockets. It is also a symbol of where my Boyfriend, Trevaughn was raised. I wear it because it reminds me of him and all the stories he had when he was in Japan. We are currently in a long distance relationship, so I guess it gives me a little bit of "hope" and keeps the faith going.
When I first saw the hoodie in the store I knew that I wanted the Tokyo instead of the Chicago and New York hoodie. I thought that having the Tokyo hoodie, would be more suitable for me because it reminds me of all the good times that we had and like stated before all of his stories that he had while he was there.

Post response to 2 colleague's view of setting

After reading Jahai's post about setting, she mentioned, "Before Krebs went to the war, he attend a Methodist college in Kansas", the story does not take us down the road of his college life, however, the big question is, did his life in college effect who he is now or did the war?  I believe that Krebs college life isn't that important, which is probably why the author didn't go in detail with it. The story is mainly apart how a war can change a man and not how college can change a man.
Monicia said, "Krebs loves to read books at the local library. The rest of the story explains how Krebs just wants to relax during WWI." This statement is true and it also describes how the war changed Krebs. Wanting to be alone and live an excitement free life, from a man who was regular, shows how much the war dramatized Krebs.

Post about the setting in Hemingway's "Soldier's Home".

The setting in Hemingway's "Soldier's Home", is in Oklahoma. It takes place in the summer of 1919. Most of the story takes place in the protagonist, Krebs's home, who was returned home from France and Germany from fighting in WWI. Krebs father is a relates business man for mostly farms and his mother is a house wife. The story allows its readers to know that Krebs doesn't want drama or excitement and that he spends time in the house a lot. Krebs loves to read books at the local library and he also likes shooting pool. His town is very small and not a lot of things happen there. The rest of the story explains how Krebs just wants to relax and be to himself because he has had too much excitement during WWI.

Response to two colleagues' posts.

In Jahai's post, she believed that, "In the story "A rose for Emily"  by William Faulkner, Miss Emily had a negro slave named Tobe. It may be possible that William Faulkner himself and his family owned slaves because William Faulkner grew up in the southern state of Mississippi", but I believe that there is something about the author more complex then that. I think Jahai should have done a bit more research of the author to really get into the root of why he wrote "A rose for Emily". It would be nice to know why, from his background, his own experience, or just anything that sparked in his mine to think of this story?
On the other hand, Monica actually did some research on her other but I really didn't see the actual connection linked to the story she choose, nor did she mention the story she choose, but she mentioned it in another blog. Monica said, "I understand now that she always wanted to be a writer and the story she wrote about has a lot to do with her life". I wonder what apart of her life had to deal with "A Sorrowful Women". Was it that she did all the actions that the main character did in the story, was it a friend that did it, or was it just something she thought about randomly? These are questions that could have been incorporated to merge both the author and the story together.

How the author's life of my Doc1 story/poem affects the story or poem

After researching Karen van der Zee's life, I noticed that she has always wanted to write, she said, "I was a dreamer, reading books and making up my own stories". To me she seems like a dreamer and a sap after reading "A Secret Sorrow".  She mentioned that she wanted to see the world and "wanted to write adventurous stories set in these exotic places". I confirmed that she was a sap because she said "I got lucky and fell in love with a globetrotting American. I met him in Amsterdam, he asked me to marry him in Rome, and we tied the knot in a ten-minute ceremony in Kenya, East Africa, where he was a Peace Corps Volunteer". I understand now, why she is so in love with writing romantic fiction stories. Her life, as far as her love life, itself is romantic. She c"ontinued writing romances and loved the creativity of it, although it was, and is, never easy". Her view point of love is that it conquers all and regardless of a struggle or a permanent damage, she is still able to see love as something beautiful. Van der Zee also motioned that she "loved the challenge of living in a foreign country where the food is different, the people interesting and life gives me endless inspiration for my writing ". A Secret Sorrow", as we all know is a romantic novel that demonstrates how love is stronger than anything, and now I know exactly why she wrote it.

Reflection of classmates post

After reading Jay's post, she learned, "“The Story of an Hour” is Kate Chopin’s short story about the thoughts of a woman after she is told that her husband has died in an accident. This story is creepy because of the role of Louise Mallard" I wanted to know what the creepy part about it was and why everyone decided to choose this story. My opinion of the story is similar because it is a story about a women who celebrates her husband’s death, so she can be free from him. Jay didn't write much about what she learned but I think her main point is that a women who celebrates her husband’s death is sort of psychotic. Also, I actually learned something from Keyshuna’s post, when she mentioned that she learned, how “a dynamic character is someone who changes a lot during a story” .To be honest I didn’t know what that meant, but after reading her response I understand that a dynamic character is a developing character, in “A Sorrowful Women”, the mother developed into a character who did not want to fulfill her role as a housewife

What I have learned about your story

When I first read "A Secret Sorrow", I wasn't looking for who was the protagonist or the antagonist, I was just simply reading. After I read it for the second time I began to read it for understanding, that's how I got the idea for my Doc 1 to ask who was the antagonist or protagonist. I learned that, in this story, it doesn't have to be read as if it is just from a women's point of view, but also from a man's. Most stories pretty much do one of the other, but since van der Zee did both it encouraged me to ask that question. I also learned that sometimes a character can be both the antagonist and protagonist, and that the main theme is finding true love and letting go of the past. I am glad I choose this story because for one it is more modern and it can be interpret and debating on.

My choice of story...A Secret Sorrow

I choose "A secret Sorrow", because it is a more modern story than the others. I like how the story proves that love conquers all, no matter what the circumstance may be. A women by the name of Faye, is unable to have children and her lover Kai is willing to give up not having children just so he can be with her. He tells her that they can adopt, and so they did. I like how the story was told because I was able to understand it better than the other stories, probably because it was more modern to me. The story did start off pretty slow, but as I kept reading I kept on going awe! I also choose this story because I know exactly what I can write about it in my doc 1.

Introducing Me!!

Hello classmates! My name is Shawnise Addison, but my friends just call me Addison ( I guess its easier) I want to switch my major from nursing to communications, so hopefully I make straight A's. I'm a really cool person and I like pop music and dubstep, some might call me an "Oreo". I didn't want to live on the Cochran campus because of the gnats( I hate gnats), however, I did want to live on the Macon Campus. I am from the city, Atlanta, and I was born in Minnesota. I like to do research on pretty much everything, especially on things I have to purchase. I am not a loud person nor am I a person who likes to "turn up". Not to say that I am boring or "too safe", I just like to chill. I am a mellow person. It's okay with me to go out to parties, but not all the time. I like to put school first because that's the main reason that I am here. I am Christian, and  I do not judge people on their beliefs. I like to draw, but I can't draw. I know that sounds weird but I'm saying that I like the idea of drawing and I wish I could do it well or at all for that matter. I also like to watch cartoons, I don't care how old I am, by the way I am 18. I will not be aged! That does not mean I am immature, it means that I like cartoons, that's it. I do not have a temper nor am I rude. I talk a lot once you get to know me other than that I may be quiet. I am considered a nerd but that's okay because nerds always wins! Well that's all about me, I look forward to knowing about all of you.
